celebrates and preserves nature & life that exists here on
Folly Island. The Folly Beach culture
thrives on sunshine, warm sand, ocean water and untouched nature.

The people here on Folly Beach
exude a friendly and leisurely attitude (also known as Southern
Hospitality) in tune with our warm, sandy island home and its
history. Their is a strong sense of community and very little
crime.
Folly Beach culture has an effect on the
art produced here. For example, George Gershwin was inspired
to write "Porgy and Bess" while visiting Folly Beach. A
currently active local artist is Julie Townsley, who creates
three-dimensional soft sculptures. Local musicians can be
found performing diverse island music at Folly Beach bars and clubs
such as bluegrass, reggae, classic rock, contemporary American folk,
and blues.
Actor's Theatre of
South Carolina
Hosted at the Folly Beach Fine Arts
Center, the Actor's Theatre of South Carolina is Folly's resident
professional non-profit theater company. ATSC conducts classes
for actor, directors, writers and designers while making new
productions by local talents.

Folly Beach Arts
and Crafts Guild
The Folly Beach Fine Arts Center is
located on the second floor of the Folly Beach Community Center and
Library. The Folly Beach Arts and Crafts Guild throws five
festivals a year where people can browse and buy works by local
artists.

Folly Beach Blue
Grass Society
Folly Beach Bluegrass Society hosts an
open jam every Thursday from 7-10 PM at Bowen's Island. Come
enjoy free live music or bring an instrument and join in.
Bowen's Island
A small island off Folly Road, between Folly Island and James
Island. From Folly Beach, go up Center Street away from the
ocean. Partway across the bridge to James Island, you will see
Bowen Island Road on the left which leads to Bowen's Island.
Bowen's Island is a tiny island amidst the marshes.
