Many Folly Beach Rental homes may be called beach rentals even though they are several blocks from the beach while others walk out to the beach.  By clicking the graphic below, we give you access to our database where we have identified and verified the actual oceanfront rentals.

Protective sand dunes crowned with beach grass separate the actual beach (where people are walking in the picture above) from the inhabitable land of the island.  All homes and buildings are constructed at least 20-50 feet off the beach, inside the boundary of the sand dunes.  Yet sandy ground extends throughout Folly Island. There are rental properties with grass, but under the grass is usually sand or sandy soil.  A variety of indigenous grass grows through the sand in clumps.  Some properties maintain a lush grass covered yard while others are surrounded by natural sand and occasional bunches of sea oats (tall beach grass).  More than half the homes on Folly are within walking distance to the beach.  But in order to actually know how close a rental is to the ocean, you need to know on which row the beach rental is located.  The first row is technically oceanfront and the most sought after.  Some first row homes may have a road or park between the them and the beach.  But most oceanfront rentals are adjacent to the beach with their own private walkway going over the dunes and down to the beach.  There are also small public boardwalks, maybe 20 feet long, just big enough to get over the dunes and onto the beach.
