11 Center Street
|
|
A nice little "tapas" place with a huge
selection of wine and import beers on the first floor that you can
take upstairs to drink with tasty Mediterranean & other appetizers served in
the open air dining on the second floor. If it's not reserved
for a wedding party, check out the cozy back patio with romantic chiminea, fireplace and vine woven trellis above. Pricing is a
little high compared to most Folly Beach bars and restaurants, but not too
bad for an upscale wine and gourmet bar.

Barrier Island Surf Shop
|
|
Such a cool surf shop hang out. It's Folly's first surfer bar. You can drink
beer or wine
while shooting the breeze with local surfers. The Barrier
Island Surf Shop is just across the bridge from Folly Island. Look for the big blue cut out surfer sign.

Buffalo South
|
|
Wings, burgers, ribs, bratwursts and
fish are the staple foods in this authentic Buffalo, New York wing
joint. You'll feel comfortable rolling up your sleeves and
digging into a basket of wings and tall beer at this casual bar.

The Charleston Oasis Bar
and Grill
|
|
It's definitely a favorite spot for the locals who affectionately
refer to it as "The O". Food here is excellent. The chef is an
up-and-coming talent with a unique, zesty menu. The Oasis is a lot of fun once it gets
filled up with a tipsy crowd on karaoke night. Despite its
large size and multiple pool tables, the Oasis is a casual southern
beach area bar that could be considered a hole in the wall.
Good live bands at the Oasis are hit or miss. The best nights
to go are Tuesday and Saturday after midnight. You'll find it
12 minutes from Folly Beach, just past La Hacienda.

Frankie Biggs Sports
Grill
|
|
Stuck in the middle of a strip mall, 7
minutes up Folly Road (Center Street), Biggs is a surprisingly big
sports bar with upscale bar food. More TVs than you can count
show the current games. Plus there is a lively weekly lineup
including DJs, karaoke, trivia and live local music.

Oceanside Pool Bar and
Riptide at the Holiday Inn
|
|
Exactly what you think of when someone
says island bar. Its just a little hut with tables sprinkled
around it. You'll find it in front of the Holiday Inn, by the
pool overlooking the beach. If you are at the beach, don't worry
about attire, just walk right up in your bare feet and order a
drink. As long as its not in a glass container, you can take
alcohol back out on the beach. It's only open during the warm
seasons and get crowded on hot days. The indoor bar, called
Riptide is open year round, but not late-night. |

Planet Follywood
|
|
Tacky, yet creative theme for a
traditional Folly Beach Pub. The first thing you'll notice is
the portraits of old movie stars painted all around the outside.
The theme is carried throughout, even in the food. Speaking of
the food, they've got excellent juicy burgers. Kind of quiet,
yet it's a good place to watch a big game.

The Pour House
|
|
Of all the Folly Beach area bars, this
one is furthest from Folly, yet made our list because it's an
outstanding music venue. Its not a huge place, but the
acoustics are always great, and it manages to attract quality
musicians. The atmosphere is warm and highly populated with
hippies and jazz lovers.

Go away from the ocean on
Center St (turns into Folly Rd). Turn left (at McDonalds) on
Maybank Hwy. Look for the sign on the left with EL BOHIO and The
Pour House. It will take you a good 15-20 minutes from Folly
Beach. |

Sand Dollar Social Club
|
|
Members and guests of members only, yet
this private club only costs a dollar to join. Once inside you
will find the oddest mixture of friendly bikers, tourists, college
students, hippies and interesting characters. They don't take
plastic so make sure you bring some cash. But at least the
drinks are cheap. You are sure to have an interesting
experience in this very raw yet friendly Folly Beach bar.

Rolling Thunder
Roadhouse Cafe (formerly The Folly Pelican)
|
|
It's
kind of a dive, but not a hole in the wall. The Pelican fits
in pretty well as a typical Folly Beach bar... super casual, fun, easy
going and a favorite place for the local beach folks to party. Pool
tables,
jukebox, a handful of TVs and video games, plus karaoke and live
local bands provide distraction while you enjoy cheap drink specials
inside or on the deck.

Snapper Jack's
|
|
Two level sports bar full of twenty
somethings and well priced, good sushi 3 days a week. The top
level bar is partially open air and full of college students and
beach loving people. The lower level bar has pool tables and
ping pong. There are satellite TVs everywhere. Snapper
Jack's serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The fried grouper
is really good. This is a fun place to go and socialize.

Sundog Bar and Grill
|
|
Karaoke and live music keeps this place
kickin'. 3 pool tables and steel tipped darts give you something to
do while socializing. The food is better than average...
burgers, wings, shrimp & grits, sandwiches, margaritas and a lot of
interesting appetizers. The atmosphere is casual and hip. Its
a spacious place that draws a young, eclectic crowd.
