Local Shots
Local surfer Colin White, a Wando High School Sophomore, got
to meet the Red
Hot Chilli Peppers over the week-end in California thanks to the Make-A-Wish
foundation. In addition to getting the guys to autograph tube socks, they
talked surf (Flea & Anthony surf, and Anthony even knew about Folly being
the place to surf around Charleston) and music and movies. Colin got to
watch them perform backstage at a benefit concert for the Hollywood Free
Clinic. Also performing were Beck, Jurassic 5, Aimee Mann, and the Jaguars.
Robert Downey Jr. and Johnny Knoxville hosted the event.
Colin was diagnosed with leukemia in August 2000. He has been responding
well to treatment and was able to get back into the surf this past May. Way
to go, Colin!
